Community Center Events

The following activities have been scheduled or are ongoing atcommunity centers in the Metro East circulation area:

RAND COMMUNITY CENTER, 5701 CHURCH DRIVE, RAND

LEASE SPACE The Rand Community Center has space available foryearly lease. A day-care center is empty and ready for business. Thecenter is close to Charleston and Kanawha City, and offers off-street parking. Call 925-6348 for more information.

COMPUTER CLASSES The Rand Community Center provides free Internetbasic computer classes. Call 925-2438 for more details.

THRIFT SHOP/CLOTHING ROOM The Rand Community Center has a thriftshop (nothing over $10) and a free clothing room open to the publicfrom 9 a.m. till noon each Wednesday. Donations are accepted; call925-4422.

FITNESS ROOM The Rand Community Center fitness room will be opento the public Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 to 9 a.m.

SENIOR MEALS The Rand Community Center hosts a weekly meal programfrom 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., funded by the Putnam County Aging Program.Games and fellowship are also offered. For more information, call 925-9200.

ROOM RENTALS The Rand Community Center offers room rentals forgroup functions. Call 925-2438 for more information.

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM The Rand Community Center, in conjunctionwith Partnerships for African-American Churches, hosts an after-school program for sixth- through eighth-grade students Mondaythrough Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. It provides homework tutoring, artprograms, computer sciences, community service programs andrecreational activities. REC ROOM The Kid Safe Haven Rec Room at the Rand Community Centeris open Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. All children are welcome.

ELK RIVER COMMUNITY & EDUCATION CENTER, ELKVIEW

ACTIVITIES The Elk River Community and Education Center in Elkviewoffers computer classes from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday andMondays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The center also hosts country andbluegrass music performances from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Fridays. For moreinformation, call 965-3722.

SENIORS TRANSPORTATION Transportation is available for those ages60 and over for the lunch program at the Elk River Community andEducation Center in Elkview. For more information, call 965-3722between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

EXERCISE Look good and feel good by working out Monday throughThursday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the ElkRiver Community and Education Center, where a large assortment ofexercise equipment is available.

INDOOR WALKING The North Charleston Community Center offers anindoor walking environment from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday inthe gymnasium.

PILATES The North Charleston Community Center has free adult andchildren's Pilates classes. Adult classes are held from 6 to 8 p.m.on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and children's classes run from 6 to8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday and from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

KIDS' BINGO The North Charleston Community Center has Kids' Bingofrom 1 to 4 p.m. each Saturday. All games are free, and prizes aregiven to the winners.

SENIOR EXERCISE The North Charleston Community Center will offer afree Senior Preventive Care Exercise class from 11 a.m. to noonMondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

GASTON CAPERTON COMMUNITY CENTER, CHESAPEAKE TOWN HALL

SENIORS' MEALS A senior citizen meal is served at noon dailythrough the Putnam Aging Program, Monday through Friday, excludingholidays, at the Gaston Caperton Community Center located in theChesapeake Town Hall. The dinner is available to anyone 60 years oldor older. Games and other activities begin at 10 a.m. This centeralso supports a home delivery service. CLENDENIN RECREATION CENTER, CLENDENIN

CLENDENIN CUBS Cub Scout Pack 144 invites all interested boys fromfirst through fifth grades to join them every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.at the Clendenin Community Center. If there is no school on Monday,there is no meeting.

KANAWHA CITY COMMUNITY CENTER, KANAWHA CITY, 348-6484

AEROBICS The Kanawha City Community Center offers aerobics classesfrom 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays.

RUNNING CLUB The Kanawha City Community Center sponsors a runningclub for stretching, running and training runs at 6 p.m. Mondaythrough Friday.

CIRCUIT TRAINING Call the community center for further informationabout this full-body, fat-burning, muscle-toning workout class.

TUMS & BUNS This class offers resistance training that targets theabdominal muscles, hips and buttocks. Call the center for moreinformation.

STRETCH & FLEX This is a 20-minute class offered at the communitycenter. Call for more information.
