FED: SARS could be a "boon" for domestic tourism, says PM
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says the SARS scare could be a boon for the domestic tourismindustry as Australians holiday at home.
Mr HOWARD's told Sydney's 2GB radio fewer people are travelling overseas due to fearsabout severe acute respiratory syndrome.
He says the scare's having a big effect on the airlines and parts of the tourism industrythat cater for overseas travellers.
But he says parts of the domestic tourism industry are doing better than ever before.
Mr HOWARD says on a recent visit to Tasmania, people in the tourism industry told himthe state was experiencing a boom.
