TOWN BIDS TO BUY POOL PROPERTY.(CAPITAL REGION)

The town wants to buy the property where it leases a pool each year for residents to use.

Town officials bid $400,000 Tuesday in bankruptcy court in Albany for the Girling Center, a 56-acre site on Aqueduct Road. The property includes a wading pool, a pool 25 feet wide by 60 feet long, a snack bar and changing facilities. The town has leased it for $15,000 a year since 1993.

The property was assessed at $1.71 million, according to town records.

``This is an opportunity of a lifetime,'' said Supervisor Kathleen DeCataldo. ``And this is an area we would like to develop.''
