QLD: Beattie says firefighting upgrade in budget

The Queensland Government has promised a $20 million upgrade of the state's firefighting
equipment in its budget next month.

Premier and acting Treasurer PETER BEATTIE says the funds will provide 170 new fire trucks,
most of them built in Queensland.

Emergency Services Minister MERRI ROSE says the new trucks will reduce the average age of
the state's firefighting appliances from 13 to nine years.
